Henry Hare Dugmore Lecture 1970. 215 x 140 mm; saddle-stitched card wrappers; pp. (ii) + 22; portrait. Wrappers very slightly foxed. Very good condition. Head of the Department of History at Rhodes University, Professor Winifred A. Maxwell presented this first Dugmore Memorial Lecture as a prelude to the 1820/1970 Celebrations in Grahamstown, drawing attention to the resources available in researching the 1820 Settlers and their world. "The idea behind my own lecture this evening was a simple one, namely to try and show what a wealth of material lies unexplored and how the investigation of it leads to discoveries. Taken singly, these are often small discoveries but they prompt that constant reconsideration which lies at the back of all advancement of learning.".
