Copy contains a black and white illustrations of a younger Grimshaw which was taken from a photograph soon after his arrival to Sacramento in 1848. This narrative by Grimshaw tells of his adventures in California during the Gold Rush. From the Preface, "Of William Robinson Grimshaw's Narrative, published here for the first time, Bancroft wrote, in his Pioneer Register: "This is not only an interesting sketch of his own life and adventures, but one of the best accounts extant of the events of '48-50 in the Sacramento region." On the inside of both covers is the map that Grimshaw followed on his adventures in Sacramento and down to San Francisco and Stainislaus.Copy is very clean and complete.
