General Galizien Interessanter eigenhändiger Brief (Lemberg 1849) des Generals der Kavallerie William Friedrich von Hammerstein (1785-1861), Regimentsinhaber des Galizischen Ulanen-Regiments Nr. 2 und kommandierender General in Galizien, der mit brutaler Gewalt gegen die Polen vorging, im November 1848 die Stadt Lemberg bombardieren ließ und sie noch bis 1854 belagerte (die Akademie, die Universitätsbibliothek, das alte Theater und das Rathaus wurden ein Raub der Flammen). --- Gerichtet an den Generalmajor Karl Ritter von Mertens (1803-1874), Sektionschef im Kriegsministerium und Stellvertreter des Kriegsministers (aus dessen Nachlass). Mit Bleistiftnotiz des Empfängers: "Hammerstein-Euord Wilhelm Fr. v. G.d.C. - wegen seines Rgts U2." --- Auszüge: "Es ist mir unendlich unangenehm vom {?} General-Commando noch keine Antwort hinsichtlich der Individual-Beschreibung der Staabs-Officiere meines Regiments erhalten zu haben, indem ich dadurch in der Unmöglichkeit versetzt bin, den Avancements-Vorschlag dem Kriegs-Ministerium unterlegen zu können, was mir besonders in dem dermaligen Augenblick der Besetzung eines neuen Regiments-Commandanten von großer Wichtigkeit ist." --- Anm.: 1849 löste Oberst Wilhelm Ritter von Faber den Oberst Friedrich Freiherr von Blomberg als Regimentskommandant des k.u.k.
