Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Facsimile edition of second edition published in 1489, of which the only known copy is in the Pepys Library at Cambridge. 8vo, unpaginated pp142 + frontispiece portrait of Pepys with a four page brief history of the edition by J. A. W. Bennett, Professor of Medieval and Renaissance English in the University of Cambridge to rear. Hardcover issued without dust jacket in slipcase. Slipcase of brown paper covered boards with blue felt and silk ribbon within in poor condition split on top and side, however it has done it's job of protecting the apparently one off binding. Full light brown calf binding with tooled gilt flowers tipped in green to both boards and 5 raised bands and leather title label to spine in very good condition with only a few small marks and slight rubbing to side of spine. Inside all pages with top edge gilt in beautiful near fine unread condition. An excellent one off copy of the facsimile of the William Caxton printed "The Historie of Reynart the Foxe" which was translated from Van den vos Reynaerde in 1481.
