The book traces the effect of certain ideas that promote the "slow drift of mankind towards civilization." Whitehead's argument, in part, is the necessity of truth, beauty, and adventure to the continuation of civilization, adventure being defined as the pursuit of originality and novelty. Alfred North Whitehead (1861-1947) was an English mathematician and philosopher. He was the coauthor of the Principia Mathematica, and the originator of Process Philosophy. Hardcover.
