Contact seller5-star sellerHardcover. Condition: Acceptable. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dj. Small quarto hardcover, near fine in green pictorial boards. Wonderful illustrations by Lynd Ward, some full page in colo. Green endpapers. 378 pp.edged in green. first published in April 1719. The first edition credited the work's protagonist Robinson Crusoe as its… author, leading many readers to believe he was a real person and the book a travelogue of true incidents. Now 300 years later it is still a favorite children's classic. Driven from a loving family and a comfortable, secure life by an unswerving compulsion for the high seas, Crusoe finds successive misfortunes and escapes culminating in a near-death disaster and emerging as the lone survivor. Initially, 28-years of isolation are filled with bitter, overwhelming disappointment, depression, despondency, regret, and remorse. Quite slowly, however, quiet reflection produces spiritual transformation and inner peace. Lynd Ward (illustrator).
