Primary text divided in four parts featuring eleven chapters titled as: "The Stone Soldier," "A Land of Strangers," "Voluntary Communities," "Guards and Slaves," "One Voice," "Greene County's Still," "Beyond a Simple Calculus," "Confidence and Despair," "Defying the Machine," "The Loyal Community," and "The Stone Soldier." Acquired from the estate of Dr. Rhoda Coleman Ellison (1904-2005) who taught at Montgomery, Alabama's Huntingdon College from 1930 to 1971 chairing the school's English department from 1959 to 1971 and thereafter appointed professor emerita. Ellison authored several Alabama-related books including an authoritative local history "Bibb County, Alabama; The First Hundred Years, 1818-1918" to which Guy War Hubbs refers to in his inscription. {Alabama-Shelf#1} ISBN 0820325058.
