In similar handwriting to second blank page recto : 'Walter C. Allen, 168 Cedar Hill Ave, Belleville I, New Jersey, U S A' In addition there some underlinings of titles and very small annotations to dates in pencil, which suggest an intimate knowledge of biographical details. Rear pastedown has further small, neat notes. The name and address of Walter C. Allen and additional pencil notes suggest strongly that this was the author's own copy. LAID IN, as pictured, is a very neat, detailed list written in ink on reverse of a portion of map of the Norfolk coastline, dated 1955. Entitled: 'OLIVER'S CREOLE JAZZ BAND : RECORDS, 1923', it is divided into columns showing, under 'Maker Number', issue numbers from GENNETT (Star Piano Company), OKEH, COLUMBIA, PARAMOUNT. Followed by columns showing Title, Date, Matrix No., Reissues Number, and Personnel Details for each. Also LAID IN, pages from The Listener dated 6 August 1981, with a double page article by Russell Davies about King Oliver, entitled ' His memorial is in the jazz pubs and clubs of England', and notes that Russell Davies presented 'Oh, Play that Thing' on Radio 3 (next week - Lester Young). The newspaper is browning where it is folded, but intact and perfectly readable. CONTENTS: xii + 224; tight, bright and clean with only the aforementioned light pencil annotations. With 2 x 4pp sections of b/w photos. In original decorative dustwrapper, unclipped - 21s, with some moderate evidence of use, now presenting well in clear, removable protective sleeve.
