Contents include proceedings of the monument dedication ceremonies, sources from Union and Confederate records, roster of surviving Pennsylvania prisoners of war who attended the Salisbury ceremony. The Confederate prisoner of war camp at Salisbury, N.C., housed over 15,000 Union prisoners throughout the Civil War with about 5,000 dying and being buried at the site.
