In 2016, the topic was material effects, asking the question: 'How does material inspire design '. For the exhibition in the Chemnitz Industry Museum and for this book, 60 works by young designers and artists were selected from over 400 submissions from more than 30 countries in the categories 'Experiments', 'Photography' and 'Product designs.' Essays by Sophie Aigner, Chiara Isadora Artico, Patricio Farrell, Linda Pense, Steffen Reiter, Chiara Scarpitti, and Andy Scholz incorporate the presented works into an extensive material discourse.The sponsor of the competition is the art association Villa Arte e.V. Chemnitz. The competition is supported by the Industry Museum Chemnitz, Vitra GmbH and Smow GmbH, as well as the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony and the city of Chemnit; Zweisprachige Ausgabe (deutsch/englisch) / Bilingual edition (English/German) Was bedeuten die Fragen der klassischen Moderne heutigen Gestaltern, Künstlern und Fotografen Seit 2000 fragt der Internationale Marianne Brandt Wettbewerb alle drei Jahre von Chemnitz aus in die Welt, wie sich Gestaltungsdebatten, die das historische Bauhaus und so auch die Chemnitzer Bauhäuslerin Marianne Brandt geprägt hatten, zeitgenössisch produktiv machen lassen. 2016 wurden Materialeffekte thematisiert und gefragt: 'Wie inspiriert Material Gestaltung '. Für die Ausstellung im Chemnitzer Industriemuseum und für dieses Buch wurden aus über 400 Einsendungen und mehr als 30 Ländern in den Kategorien Versuchsanordnungen, Fotografie und Produktentwürfe 60 Arbeiten junger GestalterInnen und KünstlerInnen ausgewählt. Aufsätze von Sophie Aigner, Chiara Isadora Artico, Patricio Farrell, Linda Pense, Steffen Reiter, Chiara Scarpitti und Andy Scholz binden die vorgestellten Arbeiten in einen weiterreichenden Materialdiskurs ein.Träger des Wettbewerbs ist der Kunstverein Villa Arte e.V. Chemnitz. Der Wettbewerb wird vom Industriemuseum Chemnitz, von der Vitra GmbH und der Smow GmbH unterstützt sowie von der Kulturstiftung des Freistaates Sachsen und der Stadt Chemnitz gefördert.
