First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. First Green Revolution in Indian agriculture during 60's and 70's brought food self-sufficiency in Indian Economy. The present book focuses on the foodgrains marketing efficiency and discuses in details as how farmers (particularly marginal and small farmers in the eastern region march ahead of the phase of distress sale (i.e. being compelled to sell their produce immediately after harvest, sometimes crop even standing in the field) at a very nominal price to the phase of selling in the local market in the wholesale market. Finally the phase of regulated market has reached. Regulated markets have been designed and established at some distances. The book is based on the data collected by the author personally interviewing sellers and buyers in each type of market mentioned above. The field survey was conducted in the sample districts of the eastern region under a research project on marketing of food grains sponsored by the World Bank and co-funded by other organizations like C.C.I, DFIU and FIAS. In spite of marketing reforms made since Independence, the survey conducted by the author, analysed and explained in the book tells the different story. The various difficulties with respect to storage, weights and measures, farm yard facilities etc. are being denied to the majority of farmers who don't have access to the regulated market due to "Farm size disability". Thus, the message of this book is that mission of enhancing marketing efficiency through regulated markets has not been fulfilled and move of the eastern region agriculture towards second Green Revolution may be rather delayed. However, the recommendation of the author in this book is that through formation of co-operative bodies like SHG (self help group) and FIG (Farmers in investment group) may bring positive results. Progressive farmers by forming. These type of co-operative bodies explained in an exclusive chapter of the book may push the regional economy towards second green revolution effectively. (jacket).
