Vintage photograph showing an aerial view of Twentieth Century-Fox film studios, circa 1936. Printed mimeo snipe in French affixed to the verso. Twentieth Century Pictures and Fox Film Corporation merged in 1935. Production chief Darryl F. Zanuck signed a suite of fresh-faced stars in the ensuing years to help buoy the then-fledgling studio, including Tyrone Power, Linda Darnell, Carmen Miranda, Henry Fonda, Gene Tierney, Betty Grable, and Shirley Temple. 10 x 8 inches. Very Good plus, moderately curled.

Original 1940 Studio Pass to Twentieth Century-Fox Studios for Hollywood columnist Jimmy Starr, with his signature. Orange cardstock, 3 5/8Ó x 2 3/8Ó with rounded corners. Studio passes were given to press and industry representatives, allowing the bearer access to the studioÕs lot and sets. It reads in full: ÒPress Pass to Publicity Department, Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corporation, Beverly Hills, California, Name Jimmy Starr [typed], Representing L.A. Herald & Express [typed], Valid Until December 31, 1940, Studio Publicity Manager Harry Brand [typed], No. 141, This Pass Not Valid Unless Signed by the Holder on the Reverse Side.Ó On the verso is a printed set of basic terms regarding the holder of the pass and is signed by Jimmy Starr in ink as the recipient of the pass. Very good with some minor use and dust soiling. Jimmy Starr (1902 - 1990) is best known as a Hollywood columnist, though he was also a writer and actor, known for The Corpse Came C.O.D. (1947), A Night for Crime (1943) and Pink Pajamas (1929). Some of the Twentieth Century-Fox films Mr. Starr may have enjoyed include such popular productions released in 1940 as The Grapes of Wrath directed by John Ford starring Henry Fonda and Jane Darwell. The film won Oscars for Best Director and Best Supporting Actress (Darwell) and was nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor (Fonda), Best Screenplay, Best Sound, and Best Editing. Other 1940 releases include Brigham Young directed by Henry Hathaway starring Tyrone Power and Linda Darnell, Charlie ChanÕs Murder Cruise with Sidney Toler, and Johnny Apollo with Tyrone Power and Dorothy Lamour.
