Condition: very good. 1st Edition. 249; 121pp. Folio. Original blue printed paper wrappers, hinges reinforced. Some creasing to rear wrapper of Part I. Contemporary ownership signature to front wrapper and penned number to rear wrapper of Part II. Minor chipping to edges of wrappers of both Parts with some staining to edges of text block of Part I. Printed titles to spines of both volumes with minor paper loss to heads and tails of spines. Occasional foxing/spotting to interior of Part I, and two green pencil marks to margins of pages 25 & 53 in Part II. Complete with 9 coloured folding maps in excellent condition, only flaw being a 2" tear near where the first map is affixed to the gutter of the book. A tight and generally clean set in original wraps. very good Parliamentary Paper C-3114 detailing British settlement of the Transvaal in South Africa. Includes detailed accounts of British relationship with the Boers and Zulus and strategies for colonizing the region in a manner to avoid conflict. Part I includes the 9 coloured maps of the region, including 1 very large folding map, and information on gold fields in the region. Part II consists almost entirely of transcripts of meetings with Boer leaders. An interesting document, as issued in blue wraps, published just after the First Boer War and foreshadowing the Second Boer War, which was to occur 17 years later.

2 volumes. Collection of eight parliamentary papers, individually published between 1882 and 1888, dealing with disputes and affairs in Transvaal, Bechuanaland and Pondoland. The first volume opens with three subsequent reports on land disputes in Transvaal, resulting from the First Boer War (1880-1881), executed by the Transvaal Royal Commission. It includes numerous telegrams, letters, transcripts of interviews and conferences, and maps showing the boundaries of different territories. The papers on Transvaal are followed by 2 similar reports on Bechuanaland, also including several maps. The second volume deals with Pondoland in the east of South Africa, containing 3 published papers with correspondence on different affairs in the area.With the bookplate of T.A. Walker mounted on the paste-down in both volumes. The binding is slightly scratched. Some parts are slightly browned, mostly in the margins, and some occasional minor foxing. One of the folding maps is torn along the fold, and one leaf in the second volume is also torn, not affecting the legibility of the text. Overall in good condition. Contemporary brown cloth, with a red title-label on the spine. With a total of 21 folding lithographed maps, many coloured in outline.
