Two Parts in 1 Volume, [24], 267, [17], 357pp. Second part has separate pagination and title page dated 1633 with "Printed by R.B. f…or Robert Allott". Cuttings from 3 old catalogue entries with armorial bookplate "Nicholas Dobree of Guernsey" on front pastedown, old parchment with early MS script used in binding showing at front and back of book, endpapers heavily browned, ownership "J Smith" at top of title, pages throughout crisp & clean but foxed at edges, ownership signatures of Henry Hatcher dated 1637 on back of 2nd titlepage. *Identification of Eliot's Court Press from STC (2nd ed.), 288. The translator James Mabbe (1571/2-1642?) spent years in Spain from 1611 as secretary to Sir John Digby, and in 1622 his friend Edward Blount first published this translation of Alem n's work. In 1623, the same year as this 2nd printing, a poem by Mabbe appeared in the Shakespeare first folio, which was also published by Edward Blount in 1623. The typeface, format and paper of this book are remarkably similar to those of the first folio. Referenced by: STC (2nd ed.), 289. 1 volume. Hardcover.
