(ho2.2). ~ The author was a major-general, colonel of the 2…nd (Queen's) foot, and adjutant-general of the forces. He was in the military from the age of fourteen until the end of his life, and made these extensive revisions in 1822, which "were much in need of it, and he accomplished the task in a manner which gave general satisfaction, embodying the improvements which had been introduced and practiced by different commanders in recent wars." -(DNB).
