8vo (140 x 216 mm). 55 ff. Publisher's printed wrappers. First edition of the earliest systematic monograph on the Riemann zeta-function, written by the mathematician E. C. Titchmarsh while at Magdalen College, Oxford, this copy signed "A. M. Turing" in pencil on the upper wrapper. This work establishes the analytic framework fo…r the study of prime distribution and the critical line, synthesising results by Riemann, Hardy, and Littlewood that became foundational for analytic number theory. - Turing, later a student of Hardy at Cambridge, would have known this tract as a core text in the field; his ownership marks a direct connection to the Hardy-Littlewood analytical tradition that shaped his mathematical and theoretical work on computability. - Wrappers and spine professionally repaired. Pencil signature somewhat faded. Text block sound and very clean. - Alan Mathison Turing (1912-1954), with his signature in pencil on upper wrapper; Robin Gandy (1919-1995), Turing's friend and one of his executors; bequeathed to Wolfson College. A Fellow of Wolfson from 1970 until his death in 1995, Gandy generously left his entire estate to the College, including this book once owned by Alan Turing, with the wish that his legacy be used to benefit the College and its students. Deaccessioned to fund student support (Turing-Gandy bursary initiative).
