Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. The first serious attempt to present a picture of the status of the whole of the Lepidoptera of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight was made in 1974. Enough new information was gathered during the following 15 years to justify a Supplement which came out… in 1992. Butter?ies have since been dealt with comprehensively in the Butter?ies of Hampshire published in 2000. Work on this Atlas, dealing solely with the moths, was started in 1994. Moths of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight is the result of this work and includes for the ?rst time ?nearly 800 distribution maps of the macro- moths and Pyramids. Several hundred thousand records have been received providing over 95,000 tetrad dots. Data from the earlier books has been added to the maps, where possible, to provide a historical aspect. The text covers all species known to have occurred in the two counties. Sixteen pages of superb colour plates containing 95 photos depict a broad range of moth species and major habitat types. Some of these species have rarely been photographed before. Further background information on foodplants, changes in distribution, important habitats and conservation is also provided. As the pressures on our countryside continue to increase it is essential that we increase our understanding of the distribution, status and ecology of our moth fauna and it is hoped this book will act as a catalyst to that end. Large book will incur addition postal charge of that quoted within abe system.
