The Quarterly was edited by the University Faculty of Political Science of Columbia College. The periodical covered much of what was going on in politics and economics - not just nationally, but internationally also. Many of the concerns of the era, dire and otherwise, were discussed. The periodical offered a very extensive category of critical reviews of books and articles. Moore was Assistant Secretary of State , a noted lawyer and professor at Columbia University. He was a recognized authority on international law. - The Utility of Speculation - by Albert Clark Stevens (1854 - 1919) A Mason, he was editor of the "Newark Evening News", and the New York "Commercial". He was an expert on secret societies, and was noted for his book "Cyclopedia of Fraternities" (which the full title of which is much longer). - Usury in Law and in Practice . by George K. Holmes (1856 - 1927) Holmes was an American economist and author. - Control of National Expenditures . by N. H. Thompson. Thompson is best remembered for his translation of Machiavelli's "The Prince" - The Crown and Democracy in England . by Prof. Jesse Macy. Macy was a historian and Professor of Political Science. He taught at Iowa State College and Grinnell College. - Irish Land Legislation, Part 2 . by Prof. Wm. A. Dunning . Dunning taught at Columbia University. His views on Reconstruction were controversial. - The Republican Party . by Prof. A. D. Morse. Professor Morse taught at Amherst College. - REVIEWS & BOOK NOTES (Too many to list) CONDITION . This is a previously owned periodical which is rather rough on the exterior, but which is unopened (ie: the leaves are still unseparated, as issued by the publisher) and thus unread, the interior being clean and unmarked - with the following particulars noted :: EXTERIOR - The spine has loss at both extremities; the spine is also considerably wrinkled; the front cover has scattered smudges, and has moderate weathering along the edges. The rear cover has some smudging, and weathering about the edges (most noticeably at the fore-edge. There is also a small tear and crease at the bottom part of the fore-edge. BINDING - There is evidence that some mending was done to the front cover's attachment to the whole (neatly effected). Else the whole is quite solid - the issue being unopened (ie: leave still joined). INTERIOR : Clean and unmarked.
