No. 832 in this important series, abridged, with an introduction by William Lyon Phelps, preface by Stix who also provides introductory commentary on each of the sports stories in this anthology that includes The Abysmal Brute by Jack London as well as stories by John R. Tunis, John Galsworthy, and others, issued by the Council on Books in Wartime, designed to fit the pocket of a World War II American GI. Very good.

Smith / with best wishes, / Edward Jerome Vogeler/ May 11, 1950," and sketch is of a gamecock, initialed "EJV." Other contributors to this anthology include Red Smith, Damon Runyon, P. G.
