Astounding Science-Fiction ran from March 1938 to October 1946 (the hyphen was dropped from the title which changed to Astounding Science Fiction with the November 1946 issue). March 1938 to October 1946 marked the time when Astounding was overseen by editor John W. Campbell, Jr. and publisher Street & Smith. During this time, Campbell wanted to change Astounding so that it became more science-focused and scientifically accurate so as to appeal to mature readers. One of Astounding's successors, Analog Science Fiction & Fact, is still published to this day.
