A first edition, first printing of 'The Colour of Magic' published by Colin Smythe in 1983. A fine book without inscriptions. In a fine unclipped wrapper WITHOUT the overprint to the front flap - only a couple of thin surface scratches marking this down from very fine. The first printing is said to have comprised 506 copies, but 400 of these were seemingly issued to libraries making fine copies difficult to come by - first issue examples without the overlay are exceptionally scarce and probably number a handful at best. The second state featuring the printed overlay found on the inner front flap of most copies was pasted over the original blurb as a result of inaccuracies spotted when the jacket was returned from the American printers. Certainly one of the rarest books in modern first edition fiction.

1 vols. 8vo. First edition. First edition. 1 vols. 8vo. Nice copy of this novel by Terry Pratchett, second in the Discworld universe, with a contemporary signature, fully legible, before he started signing with a squiggle. John Clute is a Canadian-born critic and editor/compiler of the Encyclopedia of Science Fiction (SFE), where he notes that journalist turned author Terry Pratchett (1948-2013) worked "as a publicity officer for the Central Electricity Generating Board until 1987; as a consequence, his early books were written and published intermittently. Of particular sf interest is Pratchett's development of Discworld's chief city, Ankh-Morpork initially perhaps no more than a nod to Fritz Leiber's Lankhmar into an intricately sleazy metropolis with all the bustle and stench of Victorian London" (SFE). Boards. Fine copy in fine dust jacket with art by Josh Kirby. Textblock faintly toned as always. Ownership signature of John Clute, 1987, and bookplate. Signed by the author on the title page in the legible early hand.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. HARDBACK - A very good book bound in the publisher's olive green boards that are clean and fresh. There is a little pushing to the spine tips, but the book has sharp corners. Internally, the text is clean for an ex-library copy, with a little foxing to the page block. There are some small marks to a small number of the pages, but without tears or dog eared corners. There is some hinge loosening to the title page, but with this exception, the book is tightly bound with no spine lean. The book has the usual signs of having been an ex library copy with a lending docket present to the front end paper, also a library stamp to the copy rite page. There are no other stamps inset. The dust wrapper is in very good condition with rubbing and creasing to the extremities and to the front and rear flap folds. Minimal fading to the spine, with bright colouring to the front and rear panels. The publisher's printed overlay is present to the inner front flap. Most copies were pasted over the original blurb as a result of inaccuracies spotted when the jacket was returned from the American printers. The Colin Smythe label with a price of £7.95 is present to the top corner of the front flap. A nice, lightly read title considering it was once in the UK library system. An exceedingly scarce UK title with a print run of a mere 506 copies.

First edition, first impression: London: Victor Gollancz Ltd, 1990. Signed and inscribed by Terry Pratchett to the title page: 'To Rhys, We made the devil do it. Terry Pratchett'. The true first edition, published in May 1990. Octavo. Original red cloth, spine lettered in black. With the original pictorial dust jacket illustrated by Chris Moore, priced £12.95 to the front flap. The binding is square and firm, the cloth clean and bright with only the slightest hint of bowing to the lower board. The text block is lightly and evenly toned, as often encountered; internally fresh and near fine otherwise. The complete and unclipped dust jacket is notably well-preserved, retaining strong colour and gloss; very light traces of creasing in places, else near fine. A cornerstone of modern comic fantasy, Good Omens represents the celebrated collaboration between Pratchett and Gaiman and has since achieved classic status, further amplified by its successful screen adaptation. Inscribed copies of the first edition-particularly with such a personal inscription-are both desirable and rare.

A first edition, first printing of 'The Carpet People' published by Colin Smythe in 1976. A near fine book in gently edgeworn near fine clipped wrapper in the original duraseal protector as issued. Terry Pratchett's debut novel, a fantasy adventure set in a microscopic world within a carpet. It follows the journey of young Snibril and his tribe, the Munrungs, as they battle the destructive Fray and the tyrannical Mouls. Blending humour, satire, and imaginative world-building, Pratchett explores themes of resilience, leadership, and change. The novel, originally written when Pratchett was 17, was later revised with his mature writing style. It showcases early glimpses of his wit and storytelling genius, making it a charming read for both young and adult fantasy fans.
