Hardcover, original dark brown cloth with blind-embossed decoration on front and back covers, 392 pages, frontis engraving of Wesley, "I have endeavored, in the following pages, to present an accurate and vivid sketch of the life, times, and character of Wesley and his eminent coadjutors," the cloth is completely worn away from the spine but the covers are holding nicely and the binding is still tight, the blank front end-paper has been removed and the former owner's name is present along with an ownership label, there is some light foxing on the frontis engraving but the text is clean.

The book is a collection of essays by Forty Sixer club members. It includes supplemental materials, include a section of color photographs, a complete club roster (at time of publication) and Appendices. Privately distributed by the club, mostly to club members, it is somewhat uncommon. Condition of the book is Near Fine, with no significant condition issues. An ADK-46r bookplate (signed by prior owner) is attached to the front pastedown endpaper.

Light rubbing and scuffing to the extremities; a bit of separation starting at the bottom of the rear joint, binding remains solid; contemporary gift inscription in pencil, and a later bookplate; contents with varying degrees of foxing and toning, particularly at the plates and the adjacent leaves; occasional owner pencil bracketing in the margins, but generally clean. Early volumes from a long-running Methodist periodical in a better than usual binding on this mid-century periodical.
