First edition, first printing, introducing Caird's important 1880 treatise - expressing his commitment to Hegelian idealism and inclusive Christianity - to Chinese intellectuals. William Macklin (1860-1947), the co-translator, was a Canadian Missionary and a follower of Georgism. A two-page foreword is provided by the young intellectual Tao Lung Suen (Yan Weiqing, 1911-1997), although little is known about his connection to Macklin or how he came to be inolved in this project WorldCat records just five copies: Berkeley, University of Southern California, Princeton, University of Hong Kong, and National Library of China.
