Includes Author Dedication; List of Illustrations; Preface and About the Author. Illustrated with black-and-white photographs. Signed and i…nscribed by the author, Kurt L. Wallach, with black pen at the center of the blank first free front endpaper. "Kurt Wallach brings with him a varied background not often found, ranging across a spectrum of a most manifold and wide range of callings. As a younster, he suffered the early terrors of the Nazis in Germany, and escaped with life and limb as he and his family fled the Nazi horrors, crossing the border into Holland to save their lives. Four years in exile, education in a Dutch school and a free life followed in Holland, only to be interrupted by Nazi conquests. Once again, a quick run for life, this time to America, arriving at the height of the depression, where he and his family enjoyed a good life. During WWII he enlisted in the Navy and volunteered for underwater demolition in the amphibious forces, serving as a "frogman" for one and a half years overseas. After the war he earned bachelors and masters degrees in hearing and speech pathology from Western Reserve University. He moved to Florida with his wife and children in 1956. Wallach spent several years as a tennis professional and then built the Miami Racquet Club. It was at this time that he did his first published writing, producing and having published a humorus tennis book called Tennis Is a Funny Racquet, a book that became quite successful. At the same time he wrote a weekly newspaper column, "Tennis Technique" that was syndicated in numerous magazines and newspapers throughout Florida for thirty years. Kurt Wallach later reentered the real estate industry via construction and for twenty-five years was the owner of twelve manufactured housing communibuildings and fifteen major medical plazas. His company, Kurtell Growth Industries, a real estate investment trust with assets of nine figures became one of the largest of its kind on the Treasure Coast of Florida. He remians as president and chairman of the board. In the late 1990s Mr. Wallach authored the book, Remembering Mark, that told the story of his father, a brave and truly marvelous man who saved the lives of many as he took his family to safety from certain death. He brought his wife's family and strangers out of Austria, taking them out of the claws of the Hitler regime. The book, Remembering Mark, was a great success. Mr. Wallach is a founder of, and one of the major financial contributors to, the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. As a major stockholder of Citrus Bank, Mr. Wallach also served on its board of directors. He has been chairman of several major committees including the chairmanship of the important executive loan committiee. He has donated fifty-five acres of land the the State of Florida for the protection of the environment. He is a sponsor of the Indian River Humane Society, a benefactor of the Treasure Coast Opera Society and serves on its board of directors. Mr. Wallach also served on the board of directors off the Vero Heritage Center. He is the father of two daughters, Laurie Mitchell and Penny Spark, and has a twenty-five-year-old son, Mark, who was born two months after his grandfather's death in 1981. Four grandchildren will carry on the Wallach legacy. Eighty-one years old at this writing (2008), he remains active in business and frequently travels domestically and overseas. Presently he lectures part time at Florida Atlantic University." - from the inner front and rear jacket flaps. Tabby House (book design); Tornatore, Carol (jacket design) (illustrator).
