Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 2nd Edition. 162 pages. Pictorial frontispiece, decorative head and tail pieces. 190x130mm. Original green cloth, front cover decorated and lettered in gilt. *O'Donoghue in his 'Poets of Ireland' (1915) mistakenly dates this second edition as 1882.* **The author (1825-1896) from a Monaghan family was born in Suffolk, England and studied Medicine at Aberdeen University. Although practicing as a doctor in Belfast for many years, some evidence in this book suggests he also pursued a career in theatre.** ***This copy with the ownership signature of 'W. Savage Belfast and Ardkeen' with some notes by him in pencil on 'Miss Carry Henry' and 'Mary Anne McCracken'. Pasted to the front free endpaper are two small newspaper cutting portraits titled: 'Dr Corry. Corry's Diorama.' & 'Nellie Hayes', the latter being mentioned in the manuscript notes.*** Some browning to a number of pages from old press cuttings, inner front hinge cracked and amateurishly repaired, otherwise this interesting copy is in very good condition.
