Catalogue of an exhibition from March 14 to April 12, 1985 at Fischer Fine Art Limited in London, England. Usual ex-library markings. Slight curl to upper corner. "This is the first major Bomberg exhibition for more than half a century that has not depended directly on the inspiration or determination of Lilian Holt. David and Lilian met as painters, but throughout her life Lilian subsumed her own talent in service of his art. In the thirties it was Lilian who sought to break his moods of depression, brought on by neglect and its consequent financial pressures, by urging him to paint her portrait. In the forties she tried to do the same by setting up arrangements of flowers. During this period, it was also Lilian who overcame the practical difficulties and hardships involved in their regular painting expeditions to distant parts of England, Cyprus and Spain. At the time of Bomberg's death in 1957, the Tate owned only two small watercolors, bought in the twenties and a flower painting, presented by Lilian in 1952. It again fell to Lilian to persuade others to look at work which had long lain rolled up in furniture repositories. Initially the revival of interest in early 20th-century British art encouraged a re-examination and then a rediscovery of the early masterpieces: The Mud Gath, In the Hold and The Vision of Ezekiel. But gradually a sequence of exhibitions, each crucially dependent on Lilian 's enthusiasm, at Marlborough Fine Art (1964), the Tate (1967), Fischer Fine Art (1973), Whitechapel (1979) and Jerusalem (1983) have revealed the range and power of Bomberg's art." - Nicholas Serota.
