An unusual document relating to slavery, in which Georgia tavern owners swear not to serve alcohol to any slaves or "free persons of color," as a condition of the granting of a liquor license in 1858 Decatur County, Georgia. The second paragraph of text prints additional details about the license, including the $500 fee, and also list Alex Martin as a signer. The third paragraph states, in part: "The condition of the above Obligation is such, That whereas the above bound [completed in ink holograph] 'Swain & Malone' has this day obtained a License to retail spirituous liquors. for the term of one year.
