Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. First American edition by this publisher. 32mo. 16pp. Illustrated with engraved frontispiece and title vignette engraved by "W. Howland," depicting "The African Widow" washed ashore after a shipwreck, and two text vignettes. Sewn buff wrappers printed in green wi…thin decorative border. Early browning and light spotting on covers, a very good copy, with the text and illustrations very fresh and clean. A narrative poem for children, the introduction states: "On lately reading the Report of a Society instituted for the relief of the wants of the poor Africans and Asiatic strangers, whom various circumstances in Providence have brought to England, I was much struck with the very affecting narrative of a black woman which is added to the Report. It occurred to me that it might be well to state the circumstances of her life in a few and simple rhymes.". Not in *Blockson* or *Work*, both of which note two other Anti-Slavery themed titles by Legh Richmond (see Blockson 8613 & 9117; Work, p. 463); See LCP, *Afro-Americana* 168 for an earlier Andover American Tract Society imprint of *The African Widow*.
