Paperback. Condition: new. Chakrabarty, Ms. Indrani (illustrator). Paperback. Dr. Subho Chattopadhyay is a doctorate in Management and teaches in a business school in India. He is an amateur poet. Many of the poems included in this book were written by him when he was still in school and during his college days. Quite a few of these poems were in the form of lines scribbled by him on the last page of his school diary or class notebooks. The poet loves nature, is fascinated by history and is sensitive to human emotions. All the pictures that decorate the pages of this book have been drawn by the little artist Indrani Chakrabarty. Indrani is a eleven year old child studying in Std. VI in a reputed school in New Delhi. She is a bubbly and charming little girl bursting with energy and creativity. The fourth picture in this book, displayed on 'Page 2' was drawn by Indrani by colouring a yellow sheet with black crayon and then scratching off the colour with a small sharp object. She drew it and gifted it to her grandparents when she was merely eight years old. 'Page 1' of this book draws a detailed portrait of this incredibly talented little artist. Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. The Indian rural market till long had been thought of as an inaccessible, unsubstantial market with limited purchasing power. This belief has prompted the marketers to blatantly evade the call of the rural markets. The truth of the matter is that all rural consumers are not poor. As revealed by a study conducted by NCAER, 'there are as many middle income and above households in the rural areas as there are in the urban areas'. The catch is that a sizeable portion of the rural consumer does not prefer to buy in bulk but have a propensity to buy in small amounts as and when required. This presses on the need for some change in the products, services and packaging and opens up a strong case in favour of innovation for the rural markets. Moreover the scattered and fragmented nature of the Indian rural markets makes distribution a cumbersome process. Unlike that in the urban areas, a member of the distribution channel in the rural area would end up catering to significantly lesser number of consumers in an area of comparable size. Establishing an intensively wide and deep distribution channel may not always be economically viable and profitable. This presents another scope for innovation for the marketer intending to penetrate into the rural markets. Other pertinent questions which may be answered through innovation are: how to sell profitably to the rural poor, how to reduce the cost of marketing communication and yet communicate more effectively with the rural masses, how to deliver an enhanced value to the consumers, what type of business models to develop for the rural markets, how to lower the price of the products and services for the rural consumers, how to make the products more cost effective and many more. The book attempts to give a brief account of the Indian rural market, explore the possibility of using innovation for penetrating into this market and point to and justify the suitability of some specific types of innovations for the rural market of India. Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. In the midst of advertisement clutter in an over-communicated society getting a brand noticed is a gargantuan task. The foremost desire of every brand manager in such a market is to create a distinctive identity and a pre-emptive position for the brand in the consumer's mind space. Finding a position that is meaningful for the consumer and assures him of a distinctive benefit offered by no other competitor ensures survival and sustainability for the brand. For a Multinational company, that finds itself in the midst of a culture and customs which are absolutely different from those of its home country, brand positioning may involve several critical decisions like whether or not to use a standardized strategy for all the markets, up to what extent to adapt to the local culture, what values to inculcate into the brand and what values to emphasise while positioning it, and whether to emphasise the country of origin of the brand or not. The Indian market is characterized by a unique blend of traditional values and modern approaches, and the evaluation criterion used by the consumer to judge a product or place value on a brand consists of a varying mix of such contrasting parameters. In this marketing environment marked by such psychographic characteristics of an average consumer it is interesting to get an insight into the strategies that are being used or can be used by the MNCs dealing in Fast Moving Consumer Goods to position their brands in the Indian market. The book is aimed at developing a broad understanding of the brand positioning strategies of multinational companies dealing in fast moving consumer goods in India and the factors affecting their positioning strategies.
