Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. BREAD LOAD ANTHOLOGY 1939 PREFACE BY ROBERT FROST SANBORN WOODCUTS. I am pleased to offer the 1939 edition of the Bread Loaf Anthology, with a Preface by Robert Frost. Both Frost and the Editor, W. Storrs Lee suggest that this 1939 Edition is something special, coming on the occasion… of the 100th birthday of Joseph Battell, the generous benefactor of Middlebury College and Bread Loaf, and thus, a time for introspection. This small-sized hard cover book (6 ¼ x 9 inches, 174 pages) was published by the Middlebury College Press, dated 1939 and a First Edition with the same date on title and copyright pages. It is bound in light green paper-covered boards with a beige burlap quarter spine and white titles on the cover and a title panel on the spine. Each of the authors, including Robert Frost, has a brief biography in the final section of the book. The book includes a Frontispiece and five other woodcut illustrations by Edward Sanborn. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers show a sunned shadow on the cover and some light soiling. The spine and its label are still clean and clear. There has been some very minor bumping to the corners and spine tips. Inside, a former owner has left his inked name on the front endpaper where there is also some minor foxing, something that doesn t appear elsewhere in the book. The interior pages are creamy white and clean throughout. Both hinges are intact and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
