First edition. Octavo, pp. [1-6] [1-2] 3-250, original dark yeallow cloth, spine stamped in dark red, top edge stained dark red, fore edge uncut. The author's first mystery novel which introduces Chief Fire Marshall Ben Pedley. [Reference: Hubin, p. 770]. Small label remnant to upper corner to rear paste down, lower front corner bumped, a nearly fine copy in a bright, very good dust jacket with light wear to edges and a small closed tear at the lower front flap fold with some creases. A nice copy of an uncommon book with no fading of the spine panel. (23556).
