The visions, insights, and memories of a Lakota holy man named Nicholas Black Elk, a survivor of the Battle of Little Big Horn and the Wounded Knee Massacre. The Nebraskan writer John Neihardt created a narrative based on conversations he had with Black Elk, translated by the other man's son and transcribed by Neihardt's daughter.
