A hardback book with a black leather spine and gold and red decorative on the spine and in good condition, no date in the book but inscription on the first blank introductory page of the book dated 1875. A connection of profane with sacred history, from the beginning of the World to the establishment of Christianity with numerous notes reconciling seeming contradictions, rectifying mistranslations etc.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Pp viii 656. Separate title page at p 523 , but pagination is continuous. Frontis. Contemp. full calf, new spine with maroon title label, gilt. New spine is a bit lighter than the original covers, but it has been neatly done and book is firm and tight. Stackhouse was the late vicar of Beenham, Berkshire, and Horne was minister of Christ-Church, Macclesfield. A few scattered marks in text. VG.

Full-Leather. Condition: Good. No Jacket. No Edition Stated. two 18th century novels bound in one, published as volume 5 of The Novelists' Magazine, published by Harrison and co, illustrated. Presumably contemporary full calf, hinges cracked, held by the cords, text block tight but with some foxing, text is in the form of two columns to the page. The 'magazine' was started in 1780, and lasted until 1788, in all consisting of 23 volumes. It sold weekly in parts, priced 6d, and the production values are clearly lower than the more pricy 18th C. norm. The illustrator was Thomas Stothard, and the engraver was James Heath. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Thick Octavo size (8vo) in old full calf leather, raised bands to spine, gilt lettered red label to spine, gilt rule to spine and cover edges, vii + 568pp, portrait frontispiece, red and black printed title-page, 10 other full page engravings (one torn in the blank margin but professionally repaired with archival paper). 1st Published in 1754 this is most probably the 2nd edition, we can't find records of any previous printing subsequent to the first . [CONDITION: VERY GOOD, a well preserved clean and tight copy (head of spine and cover corner tips lightly shelf-worn, small chip and rubbing to bottom corner tip of front cover, ink names on front paste-down end-paper, scattered mild tanning to leaves) A nice looking and very tactile copy ] . . . Corners bumped and rubbed. Edges rubbed in a few places. Overall condition VG.
