James Stack's manuscripts of his life in early NZ, where he was born in 1835, were not found until 1930s. His record covers his father's missionary activities, his own travels in the northern North Island, encountering and observing warlike tribes, describing the people, the vast bush areas etc, to leave an invaluable account of NZ as it then was. First published in NZ in 1935, by OUP in 1937. 157 pages, colour frontis, e/paper maps and one other, some b/w sketches. The card covers and text block are VG, whited out name on FFEP. The price clippedt colour art DJ has some edgewear, tiny section missing spine top and lower and top of rear fold.
