Sagt seine Teilnahme an einem Ausflug nach Krefeld ab und drückt dem nicht namentlich genannten Adressaten sein Bedauern über die Verhinderung aus: "[.] Sehr gerne würd ich wieder einmal meinen Crefeld Freunden mich nähern, die Erinnerung an die in Crefeld verlebten Stunden weckt wirklich die… Sehnsucht in mir, dieselben nochmals durchzuleben und genießen. Augenblicklich bin ich aber leider nicht in der Lage, mich nur über eine Stunde im Tage und dieses durch mehrere Wochen regelmäßig zu disponieren. Vollauf mit dem 2ten samt meinem unglückseligen Oesterreichischen Geschäft beschäftigt, muß ich just dazu mit [?] zu Rathe ziehen und darf keine weitere Verflüchtung eingehen [.]". - Nach einem Studium der Philosophie und Geschichte in Prag, widmete sich Springer ab 1846 der Kunstgeschichte und verfasste eine zweite Dissertation in Tübingen, wo er auch eine Pressekampagne gegen das Verbot von Theateraufführungen initiierte. Nachdem er im Jahr 1848 Vorlesungen zum Revolutionszeitalter an der Prager Universität gehalten hatte, musste er die Stadt aufgrund seiner radikalten politischen Ansichten verlassen, konnte sich aber an der Universität Bonn etablieren, wo er zunächst als Dozent, ab 1860 als Professor für Kunstgeschichte lehrte. Ab 1873 hatte er den neu gegründeten Lehrstuhl für Kunstgeschichte an der Universität Leipzig inne. - Spuren alter Faltung.

An einen namentlich nicht genannten Adressaten: "Das Schreiben, das Dr. Pinkas an mich richtete, erhielt ich eben in dem Augenblicke als ich nach Manchester abfuhr; die darauf folgende Zeit war ich mit meinen praktischen Studien in den Industriebezirken Leicesters so sehr in Anspruch genommen[,] mir w…ar durch die ganz außerordentliche Güte meiner englischen Freunde eine so reiche Gelegenheit zur Selbstprüfung der sozialen Zustände Englands geboten, daß ich in der That nicht eine Sekunde für meine Correspondenz verübrigte [sic]. Dr. Pinkas wird mir es wohl nicht verübeln, daß ich mit der Antwort ungebührlich zögerte; die Vortheile, die ich auf meiner Reise geerndtet [!], kommen ja direkt u. indirekt der Union zu Statten; ich habe Stoff zu einigen Feuilletonartikeln zusammengespart, u. meine politische Bildung wesentlich gefördert. Vom deutschen Wertradikalismus mehr oder weniger angestekt [!], thut uns nichts so sehr Noth als eine positive Politik, als die Thatsächlichkeit u. in diese habe ich mich nach Kräften hier einweihen lassen [.]". - Springer hatte 1849 eine längere Reise zu kunsthistorischen Studien durch die Niederlande, Frankreich und England angetreten. "Von London ward er von seinen politischen Freunden nach Prag zurückberufen, welche daselbst das föderalistische Blatt Union' begründet hatten, mit dessen Hilfe das starre Centralisations-System gebrochen werden sollte. S. trat als Hauptmitarbeiter bei dem Blatte ein, dessen Programm die Anhänger des Nationalitätsprincips der verschiedenen Völkerschaften des Kaiserstaates unterschrieben hatten. Bald trat die "Union" in Sprache und Haltung in so gewaltthätiger Weise auf, daß amtlicherseits ihre Unterdrückung erfolgte" (ADB XXXVI, 270). - Adolf Pinkas war einer der Anführer der Prager Universitätsunruhen von 1848 gewesen, gehörte der Prager Deputation in Wien an und war Mitglied des neu gewählten Prager Gemeindeausschusses, des Nationalausschusses und des Konstituierenden Reichstags in Kremsier, wo er einer der Wortführer der Liberalen war. 1850 war er einer der Gründer der "Union" gewesen und war auch an der Gründung der Böhmischen Hypothekenbank beteiligt. Zudem war Pinkas viele Jahre lang Intendant des Deutschen Landestheaters Prag.
