White Oaks, in fabled Lincoln County, was a booming mining camp in the 1880-1890s and the author was there almost from the beginning, arriving in 1882 when he was eleven. He watched White Oaks develop into a real town, and then decline as the mines petered out. White Oaks produced several famous citizens; Pat Garrett was an early sheriff, a disgraced US Senator (Albert B. Fall), and a future First New Mexico Governor (William C. McDonald), and a future president of one of the world's largest mining companies (Benjamin B. Thayer/Anaconda). A clean very presentable copy.…
