Deel II handel oor Afrika gedurende die koloniale era. Die fokus val op die vestiging van beheer oor en die administrasie van hul nuwe kolonies deur die verskillende Europese moondhede. Dit word geplaas teen die agtergrond van twee wêreldoorloë en 'n veranderende siening van die verhouding tussen die individu en staat. Gedurende hierdie periode was daar deurgaans weerstand teen koloniale regering en dit het aangegroei tot 'n golf van anti-kolonialisme wat gelei het tot die algehele verdwyning van koloniale moondhede uit Afrika in die twee dekades wat op die Tweede Wêreldoorlog gevolg het.
