Sherman & additional plates and cuts and a map; dark blue cloth covered boards, spine lettered in gilt with a gilt top edge. "Smith enlisted in the 51st Illinois, served in the ranks, and finished his duty as an aide at division headquarters; his well-edited diary spans four years of war in the Tennessee area."
