Edgewear, especially along the spine edges where the cloth is splitting. Spine is age darkened with bumping to ends and two vertical creases. Foxing to the page edges. Age discolouration to endpages. Boards have moderate shelf wear with mild bumping and fraying to corners and crushing and fraying to spine ends. All surfaces tanned and sunned, particularly spine. Gilt lettering to spine is dulled but remains brighter on front.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. A very good hardback first edition, first impression, without a dust jacket. Navy blue cloth with gilt title lettering to upper cover and spine. With the signature of Roberts (pictured) cut from the bottom of a letter and stuck on the front free endpaper. There is some foxing to all 3 edges, but the boards and spine are clean, the binding is sound and secure and the contents are clean and complete. There is a previous ownership name in fountain pen at the top of the front paste-down, and a small private book plate on the front free endpaper (beneath Roberts' signature), but overall this is a very good hardback first edition.
