Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Many school districts across this great nation are facing serious patterns of underachievement of students who do not fit well in a mainstream educational environment. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological research study was to explore the perceptions and experiences of graduates from a credit-recovery nontraditional alternative high school that influenced his or her graduation. Nationally, many high school students are not earning sufficient credits to remain on grade level with their freshman level cohort. These at-risk students need options with stronger incentives to obtain high school credits and meet graduation requirements. Credit-recovery nontraditional alternative high schools involve an at-risk student population who are at a greater risk of academic, social, and emotional struggles. These students benefit from additional support that a nontraditional setting offers. This study involved interviewing 12 high school graduates who attended and graduated from a credit-recovery nontraditional alternative high school. There was a diversified group by age and other demographics representing five graduating classes. With this research study, the investigator determined graduates' perceptions of credit recovery in their nontraditional alternative high school were overwhelmingly positive. The lived experiences explored in this study may help school leaders, policy makers, teachers, staff, parents, and community partners understand the unique needs of this population.…

Hardback. Condition: Good. A Pocketful of Virtues, Book One is an engaging and insightful rhyming book for children that introduces several impactful virtues and provides a foundation for conversations about what they mean in a child's everyday life. Book One of the four book series introduces the following virtues: Kindness, Perseverance, Curiosity, and Patience.Believing that virtues help to form a child's character, this book provides a way to introduce and talk about these characteristics through age appropriate examples and illustrations. Virtues are often learned through imitation and habit and unfortunately not every child has a positive family role model. Written by an admittedly fallible author, the content introduces virtues without judgment. It is the author's hope to expose more children to these virtues via other adults, educational institutions, community programs, and from their peers as well. The book does not have any religious references and is accessible and appropriate for groups of children from various cultures. A Pocketful of Virtues focuses on universal behaviors that children could aspire to that will have a positive impact on their lives and the lives of others. Recognizing that virtues can be interpreted and taught in various ways, the book is meant to provide a foundation for a thoughtful discussion with a trusted source so that the children can formulate their own ideals and behaviors. Thanks to several parents who contributed ideas, there are questions and activities at the end of the book to help explore the virtues with the child/children in a more personal way.The completed series will cover sixteen virtues; four in each book. Book One is complete and Books Two - Four will be completed by January 2021. The following virtues will be introduced in Books Two, Three and Four: Book Two- A Pocketful of.Respect * Courage * Honesty * FairnessBook Three- A Pocketful of.Responsibility * Compassion * Gratitude * GenerosityBook Four- A Pocketful of.Forgiveness * Loyalty* Authenticity * HumilityRecommended Reading Level Minimum Age: 5 Maximum Age: 10 Minimum Grade Level: P Maximum Grade Level: 3.
