Hardcover. Condition: fine. Dust jacket condition: good. Cover has shelf wear to head and tail of spine; slight foxing to end papers. Dust jacket has minor chips head and tail of spine; a three-inch vertical tear in front panel, partially closed with tape, with no loss of paper, nor does it obscure the title or image on cover. Small octavo; 464 pp. First edition stated. Brown lettering on tan cloth boards. Numerous b/w illustrations. Binding and hinges sound; clean copy with no markings. Admiral Raphael Semmes was commander of the C.S.S. Alabama, 1862-1865. From verso of title page: "The Confederate Raider ALABAMA comprises selected chapters from Memoirs of Service Afloat During the War Between the States, by Raphael Semmes." Memoirs of Service was first published in 1869.
