This copy of 'the Golden Treasury' is a compilation of the best songs and lyrical poems in the English Language,together with 100 additional poems(to the end of the 19th century), selected and arranged with notes by Francis Turner Palgrave. Frontispiece plate of Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Front marbled fly has been removed. Page edges gilded. Contents pages very slightly foxed and toned. Contents firm and tight. Rear inside cover pages have torn away at spine but binding remains tight. Grained Leather padded hard cover. Rear cover grazed; torn at top left revealing padding.Grazed on spine. Front cover is split away down spine revealing padding; torn at bottom and split away from spine at top. Gilt titling on front cover and spine. 496 pages. Dimensions: 18 1/2 x 13 cm.

Condition: Good. Golden Treasury Series, series colophon on cover, list at back. Part of a charming early 20th century set for older children. For children ages 9-16. Preface dated 1875. Title-vignette Mother and Child from a design by Raphael Sanzio. Notes at back, index of writers & first lines. 332 pages, spine, covers & endpapers somewhat darkened. Palgrave, 1824-1897, was a poet, critic, and professor well-known for his anthologies. Hardcover, blue cloth boards, gilt-stamped cover & spine.

Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Eighth Thousand, December 1861. Small 8vo. Pp (viii), 332. Original cloth; stamped, ruled and lettered gilt. There is a crease to the front board and the corners are bruised; top and bottom of the spine pulled. Spine darkened and lettered gilt faded. Inner hinges cracked but secure. Internally clean and generally sound. Inscriptions dated 1862 to front pastedown and free endpapers.

Orange cloth with black lettering and black and blue decoration on spine and front board, top edge orange. 12 colour plates (including frontispiece) tipped on heavy gray stock with tissue guards bearing captions - collated. Includes Index of Writers and Index of First Lines. Very small edge tear on half-title and contents pages - achivally taped; small stain at top edge of frontispiece page (does not effect tipped-in plate); minor toning to endpapers; two tissue guards have one ot two light wrinkles, a third has a tiny hole; light edge wear to boards; light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine; light browning to fore-edge and bottom of text block; two tiny dents on bottom edge of front board; narrow scuff across bottom of text block at spine; come darkening to spine colour and on a 1/2" band at bottom of rear board. Book is protected in a stiff mylar sleeve.

Raised bands and gilt decorations to the spine. Triple gilt borders to the front and rear. Text block has top edge gilt. Fore and tail edges have moderate age toning. Deckled fore edge. Pictorial end papers. Cracked front hinge to verso to limitations page. Slight wear interiorly including light foxing and minor, incidental marks.
