However, the lower and upper thirds of the spine leather are detatched and missing. Original brown full leather cover. Retains much of the original gilt border and all of the intricaqte blind stamping on front and rear cover. Marbled covers and end papers. Internally it is complete, nice and tight. Full page engraved frontispiece "Melrose" drawn JMW Turner RA, engraved W. Miller. Title piece engraving "Newark Castle" drawn JMW Turner RA engraved by W J Cooke. Both clean with no marking. Introduction date 1831 and a page about the book refered to as 'ground of' dated 1842. Larger format hardback edition without dustjacket. Clean bottle-green hardback binding with gold-coloured illustration to centre of both boards of what looks like an urn with a thistle on top with flag/banner to either side and an open book, goblet, helmet, mask etc. Gold-colour decorations of armorial and Scottish medieval weapons and a tartan and shield to spine. Light wear to spine-ends and boards' corners. Page-edges moderately browned and rough-cut as of period. Pages very clean and tidy,

This work contains a collection of poems written by Scottish poet, historian, novelist and playwright Sir Walter Scott.
