Presumed first edition (matching dates upon title and copyright pages). [10], 259 pages. Hardcover: H 19.25cm x L 13cm. Original green cloth (one of several variant bindings of unknown priority) obtrusively mottled; spine strongly cocked; spine's gilt stamping flaked/dulled but discernable. Toning/foxing to endpapers; ink ownership inscription dated July 1938 on front pastedown; some slight soiling and foxing to interior pages which, overall, remain clean. Binding slightly stressed at several quires bit otherwise firm. Features twleve stories: "The Rose of Alabama;" "Christmas;" "The Confederate Soldier;" "Agricultural Democracy;" "The Rebel Dead;" "The Southern Planter;" "The Strength of a State;" "Memorial Day;" "Random Recollections;" "The Backwoodsman;" "Theodoric Burnside;" and "Under the Magnolia.".
