Hardcover. Condition: Good+. First edition. 2 vol. 8vo. [2], iii-ix, [2], 2-897, [3]; [3] 4-1019, [5] pp. Brown cloth with a few borders in blind on each board, gilt lettering on the spines. Stamped "U.S. Government Bindery" on the front board of volume two. Prepared under the direction of the Secretary of War, by Lieut. Col. Robert N. Scott, Third U.S. Artillery, and published pursuant to act of Congress approved June 16, 1880. Series I Volume XVII - in two parts. Part I - Reports. Part II - Correspondence, etc. These volumes cover operations in west Tennessee and in northern Mississippi (including Vicksburg) from June of 1862 until January of 1863. A fascinating record of the middle portion of the U.S. Civil War. A few dampspots to the cloth, a bookplate on each front pastedown, an occasional spot of foxing.
