This book is a crucial text for ongoing efforts to conserve tropical forests in Africa and the amazing wildlife whose existence depends on the conservation of these areas, which are under ever-growing pressure from the encroachment of human habitation and natural resource extraction. "Part 1 describes the issues, history of forests and climate, biological diversity, conservation of large mammals, and the peoples of the forests. Included are discussions of the links between population, environment and agriculture, the timber trade, protected areas system and the future for Africa's forests. Part II of the Atlas is a country by country survey of the forests of Africa. Stunning four-color maps, in a 9 x 12 format, have been compiled from satellite and radar imagery, aerial photography, and the latest information provided by forestry departments and development agencies." This 1st Edition/1st Printing is in Fine condition. There is a small address label affixed to the first free endpage, otherwise it is spotless inside. Exterior covers are equally clean except for a single white 1/16" spot on the front cover. All corners are sharp and there is just very slight rub wear to top/bottom edges of the covers and spine. The dust jacket is unclipped, completely clean and has no chips or tears, but does have a few scratches on it. Will be bubble-wrapped to protect the corners and shipped in a sturdy box to ensure safe delivery.
