All the newly industrialized economics with dramatic growth in the past forty years achieved universal or all most universal primary enrolment by 1965. The influence of primary school on the adoption of modern practices was greater than that of other factors such as home environment urbanization etc. With the populations growing faster than primary school enrolment many countries will have to make a vigorous efforts to reduce illiteracy over the next ten or fifteen years. To overcome the short comings the first priority of primary education should be to increase children's learning in school so that most of students master the curriculum and complete the primary cycle. Since achieving well defined standards of learning by children in schools is a powerful indicator of success of the system that works the National Policy of Education (N.P.E.) 1986 emphasized the need for laying down minimum levels of learning for each stage of school education as a prerequisite for setting performance goals. The basic considerations according to Dave (1991) that should be kept in view in this context is the cognitive abilities of the children at different classes or grades corresponding to different stages of development. Virtually all mass education systems have been established with the aim of producing minimal levels of competence in the general population. Primary education usually takes the charge of developing such skills among the population of the country. The book has its main features in the competency based primary education and its conceptualization. The book describes in details the essential cognitive abilities and their impact on the academic achievement of primary school children in specific subjects of curriculum such as mathematics and language. Empirical evidences have been organized coherently and discussions made with due care and importance. The practices and actions required for achieving universal elementary education have been logistically presented. The book is likely to create interest among practitioners policy makers and scholars in the field of education. 144 pp.

Holistic education. Index. Responding to the serious challenges and rapid transformations our education inevitably has to change fundamentally towards alternative education paradigm in order to pursue a new future for our new generations as well as our society. This paradigm aims to provide unlimited opportunities for every student and teacher to maximize their potential and performance in borderless learning and teaching. The alternative education for learning will be nationally strategic for each society's long term development. The implications of alternative education requires teachers to change their roles and teaching styles from teacher centred to student centred in the educational process and the curriculum to be changed from the subject knowledge based to intelligence based in a practical way. Educational reforms focus on paradigm shift in learning and teaching with aims to maximize opportunities for student's effective life long learning and their pursuit of a new future in the new century. The present book is intended to serve as a reference book to provide indispensable ideas of some radical thinkers in alternative education. The content is precisely presented in ten chapters. 228 pp.

Add to basketTaschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book portrays India as a representative of post-colonial democratic republic states with a parliamentary form of federal-structured government and analyzes the critical challenges faced by such states in generating broadly shared economic well-being and quality of life. The reader is shown how creating and utilizing physical, human, financial, and social assets under the aegis of public policies help achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to provide a global framework to move toward a more equitable, peaceful, resilient, and prosperous society by 2030. It not only addresses how the state's capacity has long been linked to the available economic resources, but also unfolds how the political system thus evolves to crucially determine the capacity of the state to implement its programs. The chapters of this book are particularly focused on judging the state's capacity amid the neo-liberal ascendancy that has been triggered by the opening up of both the domestic and external economy, significantly initiated since 1991 and popularly known as the economic reforms in India.Examined here is the potency of the public policies of the country in fulfilling the sustainable development agendas, the specificity of which places the state at the heart of its execution, unlike many other versions of development that would be executed in parallel with or without states' action. This work book has three principal foci facets within the broad swath of discussions covered by different chapters: (1) It critically examines how successful remains the public policies in mobilizing the population is mobilized to the next orbit of income, employment, education, and health consequent to amid the existing considerable magnitude of social and economic inequalities while achieving 'equity' has always been the declared agenda in the post-reform public policy frameworks; (2) It traces the rationality of the transformation of the public policies and welfare strategies duringthe post-reform period in terms of motives, goals, and coverage to achieve the SDGs; and, (3) It reviews specific post-reform policies in terms of their potency to stimulate the system in addressing sustainable development. and upholding the state's dominant and structuring intervention to resolve the existing inequalities and ensure that society develops amidst a harmonious world reconciled with nature.
