Known for her cutting-edge exploration of identity, surveillance, and resistance, Hershman uses new media to critique societal control and the body's vulnerability in digital spaces. The collection, curated by Ryszard W. Kluszczynski, emphasises Hershman's continuing focus on the physical and psychological impacts of technology on the human form, especially as it relates to themes of autonomy, resistance, and surveillance. The book features essays and analyses discussing the themes present in Hershman's work, ranging from the political implications of body autonomy to the artistic critique of state surveillance. The exhibition reflects on how these works resonate in the post-communist political climate of Poland, adding layers of meaning to the relationship between power structures and personal freedom. The role of technology, from early experiments in interactive art to multimedia installations, is central to understanding Hershman's critique of contemporary society. -- Contents: Introduction; Lynn Hershman Lesson, Romancing the Anti-body; Lust and Longing in (Cyber)space; Lynn Hershman Lesson, Phototography - Video - Installations - CD-Rom; Ryszard W. Kluszczynski, Captured Bodies of Resistance: On the Art of Lynn Hershman; Abigail Solomon-Godeau, Lynn Hershman Conscientious Objectification: Lynn Hershman's Paranoid Mirror; Margaret Morse, Lynn Hershman's Room of One's Own; Biography -- Lynn Hershman Leeson (born 1941 in Cleveland, Ohio) is a pioneering American artist and filmmaker best known for her work at the intersection of art, technology, and feminist theory. OUTSTANDING book on Polish Art Nouveau, replete with beautiful, quintessential art of the period, largely overlooked. Exhaustively researched and copiously illustrated - over 600 color illustrations surveying work in painting, graphic art, architecture, furniture, applied and decorative arts, silver, and more - artwork of an extremely high caliber, with some major work revealed, such as the nude paintings of Wojciech Weiss and the Symbolist self-portaits of Jacek Malczewski. Gebundene Ausgabe. Condition: Sehr gut. Unter den vorgestellten Arbeiten finden sich String Games: Improvisations for Inter-City Video (1974); No Solution: A Suspense Thriller; The Secret Life of Cornelia Lumsden (1979/1986); from the Transit Bar (zuerst gezeigt 1992 auf der documenta IX), Body Missing (1994) sowie neueste Arbeiten wie Once Near Water (2008) und The Blue Train (2012). (Englische Ausgabe ISBN 978-3-7757-3247-5) This monograph is the first extensive survey of the most important works by Czech-born Canadian artist Vera Frenkel. Her contemplative, transdisciplinary projects have been a presence on the international scene since the 1970s. Her installations, videos, writings, and websites address central issues in an age that is more affected by human migration, and violence than any other. Among her topics are politics of the archive, the impact of media on the shaping of cultural memory and forgetting, and the interplay of institutional and individual narratives. Among the works featured are String Games: Improvisations for Inter-City Video, No Solution: A Suspense Thriller; The Secret Life of Cornelia Lumsden and from the Transit Bar, (first seen at documenta IX 1992), Body Missing, (1994), and recent works such as ONCE NEAR WATER (2008-09) and The Blue Train (work in progress, 2012).
