Original brown cloth with stamped decoration; board edges worn with small surface patches of cloth missing, spine cloth entirely perished with underlying binding m…esh exposed lengthwise with quires visible at ends. Some splitting evident to binding between frontis and page 3 with some associated tenuousness to front board; rear board remains firm. Front and rear flyleaves toned as is frontispiece b/w portrait plate of Mrs. Rumpff; mostly mild to moderate foxing throughout; moisture staining at bottoms of leaves most prevalent towards book's rear. Features biographies of Eliza A. Rumpff (1801-1838), daughter of John Jacob Astor and Sarah Todd, who married Vincent Graf von Rumpff on 10 December 1825 on pages 3-56 and of Duchess de Broglie (1797-1838) on pages 57-79. The poem "Transplanted Flowers" by L.H.S. is on page 80. OCLC cites a 159 page 1839 edition published in New York by John S. Taylor (under the title "Transplanted Flowers, or Memoirs of Mrs. Rumpff, Daughter of John Jacob Astor, Esq. and the Duchess de Broglie, Daughter of Madame de Stael") and this apparent American Tract Society edition of 80 pages published circa 1860 issued under the altered title of "Memoir of Mrs. Eliza Astor Rumpff, and of the Duchess de Broglie, Daughter of Madame de Stael." Antiquarian ink writing of "27" and "Rosalie Tutwiler" on front pastedown and three-line inscription "M.T. Wright | from Gen. [?] Crocker. | March, 1860" on front free endpaper. Provenance of a Columbus, Mississippi estate but with no family history to the aforementioned names. A Union Army brigadier general of the name Marcellus M. Crocker served in the Corinth and Vicksburg campaigns but was not in military service in 1860 at the time of the inscription.

Die 1923 in Trier geborene Maria Magdalena Rumpff-Reuter heiratete im Jahr 1951 Wilhelm Rumpff und zog nach Moers an den Niederrhein.… 1953 wurde ihr Sohn geboren. Die Begegnung mit Moselanern, erst 27 Jahre später, war der Auslöser Gedichte von bekannten Trierer Mundart-Autoren, die ihr gefielen, zu vertonen, notengrafisch aufzuzeichnen und vorzutragen. Das führte dazu, dass sie sich ernsthaft im Gedicht und Lied ihrer alten Heimat widmete. Es folgten zunächst eigene Gedichte in Mundart. Am liebsten kombiniert sie Spache mit Musik. Mit dem Verfassen ihrer hochdeutschen Gedichte begann sie nun gleichzeitig damit, ihre Melodien auch dazu als Klangbild zu gestalten. Werke der Künstlerin wurden bereits in einem Liederbuch (dem ersten seiner Art), in Anthologien und auf Tonträgern veröffentlicht. Der Trierer Komponist Heinz Heckmann arrangierte zu ihren hochdeutschen Liedern den Klavierpart und komponierte einzelne ihrer Schöpfungen für Männer- und Frauenchor, kürzlich auch ein Lied für ein Streichquartett.
