Hij fotografeert landschappen door zijn camera aan een vlieger te hangen. De intensiteit van de beelden in vogelvluchtperspectief lijkt in tegenspraak met de eenvoud van de wijze waarop ze tot stand komen. De afwezigheid van de horizon waarop wij normaal onze blik oriënteren, leidt tot een wonderlijke en raadselachtige abstractie van het Nederlandse waterrijke landschap. Dit levert beelden op die gemanipuleerd of kunstmatig lijken, maar dat niet zijn. De Ruijter's fotowerken zijn dan ook eerder verwant aan schilderkunst dan aan documentaire fotografie.
